Поэтому и полувековой юбилей «Варшавская осень» отмечала два раза -- в 2006 и в 2007 годах. Хотя середина 50-х годов ХХ века и в Польше считалась «оттепелью», а целью организаторов фестиваля «Варшавская осень» было всего лишь себя показать и на других посмотреть, с самого начала он был больше чем фестиваль: «ВО» во многом определял уровень взаимоотношений искусства (в данном случае -- музыкального) и власти в странах социалистического лагеря. В 1972 году, например, из СССР в последнюю минуту вместо экспериментатора Эдисона Денисова прислали Тихона Хренникова (хотя Денисов таки появился в программе -- под псевдонимом, как соавтор коллективного камерного сочинения «Энциклопедия»). А уже в ХХI веке был освистан и обозван «соцреалистическим» концерт не кого-нибудь, а живого классика польской музыки Кшиштофа Пендерецкого.
